Aurora police have recently detained 35-year-old David Puente-Ruiz, the man who is suspected of allegedly causing a serious Aurora car accident this past Saturday and then fleeing the scene on foot. According to investigators, Puente-Ruiz was reportedly driving the wrong way on the I-225 near South Parker Road (he was going south in the northbound lanes) when he slammed into another vehicle head on at approximately 2:20 am. The driver of the other vehicle was seriously injured, and instead of calling police and remaining at the scene until they arrived, Puente-Ruiz fled on foot.

The suspect in a serious Aurora hit-and-run accident could be facing a civil car accident lawsuit filed on behalf of the victim in addition to the pending criminal case.
Although investigators refrained to disclose how they were eventually able to identify Puente-Ruiz as the negligent driver, they did explain that this suspect is currently being held in the Arapahoe County Jail, facing a number of criminal charges – including:
- Vehicular assault
- Hit-and-run involving serious bodily injury
- DUI.
Hit-and-Run Car Accident Injury Lawsuit for Victim May Be Filed Soon
As the criminal case against Puente-Ruiz moves forward, it’s quite possible and likely that a civil car accident lawsuit will also be filed against Puente-Ruiz on behalf of the accident victim (whose personal information has been withheld from the public at this time).
By pursuing a civil case against Puente-Ruiz, the victim in this case can seek compensation for:
- The medical bills and ongoing treatment expenses associated with his injuries
- The car repair bills for the damage his vehicle sustained in the head-on collision
- Lost wages due to his car accident injuries
- Mental anguish suffered as a result of this serious accident
- Other losses caused by the hit-and-run.
If it is found that Puente-Ruiz is not insured (or is underinsured when it comes to auto coverage), the victim in this case may still be able to obtain the compensation he needs and deserves if he has uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage as part of his own auto policy.
In cases like these, it’s critical that victims work with experienced car accident lawyers like those at Cederberg Law to ensure they have the best chances of building the strongest possible cases and obtaining the full amount of compensation to which they are entitled.
