This past Thursday, a FedEx truck and a bus collided head-on, causing both vehicles to erupt into flames and at least 10 people to be killed. According to the most recent reports, the accident occurred when the truck driver was reportedly trying to avoid crashing into another passenger vehicle. As the truck driver swerved, he crashed into a bus that was carrying about 44 Los Angeles area high school students who were on their way to Humboldt State University for a college visit.

As investigators look into the causes of the deadly bus and truck accident that occurred this past week, they may find that driver negligence was a factor.
While this tragic accident resulted in the immediate death of the bus driver, as well as the driver of the FedEx truck, three parent chaperones on the bus, as well as five other students on the bus, were also killed upon impact. About 40 other students on the bus reportedly suffered a range of injuries, including bone fractures and severe burns. Some of these injured students were treated at the scene, and others were transported to nearby hospitals for emergency medical care.
Ongoing Investigation May Reveal Driver Negligence
At this point, investigators are still looking into the precise causes of the accident and have not officially ruled out negligence on the part of the driver of the passenger vehicle, the FedEx driver and the bus driver. As more details about this fatal accident come to light, it’s possible that the investigators may uncover that any of the drivers may have been:
- Distracted
- Fatigued
- Intoxicated
- Violating traffic laws (by, for example, running stop signs, failing to use indicators when changing lanes, failing to yield the right-of-way to other motorists, etc.).
If it’s discovered that some type of negligence was involved in causing this horrific, deadly accident, the families who have lost their loved ones in this wreck – as well as the people injured in this accident – will be entitled to compensation for their losses and mental suffering (among other things).
