GM has announced that it has recalled about 370,000 of its 2014 trucks due to risks of overheating and, in turn, causing fires.

Two weeks ago, GM announced that it would be recalling approximately 370,000 of its 2014 trucks due to the fact that they carry a significant risk of overheating and, in turn, causing fires. The specific trucks affected by this massive GM recall include the 2014 Chevy Silverados and the GMC Sierra full-size trucks.

According to GM, the recalled trucks have issues with their software, and these problems have been directly responsible for causing at least 8 truck fires to date. GM was quick to point out, however, that:

  • All of the truck fires occurred in areas experiencing cold weather, so the damage to the surroundings was minimal.
  • There have not yet been any reported injuries or deaths associated with these truck fires.

GM plans on notifying owners of the recalled trucks of this fire risk via mail within the coming weeks. In this written notification, GM will be instructing vehicle owners to take their trucks to a specified auto repair shop to have the software problems fixed for free. Until owners of the recalled trucks are able to get the software problems fixed, they are instructed to not leave their car idling unattended for any period of time.

Individuals who have been injured in a truck fire caused by these software issues – or who have been injured due to any vehicle equipment defect will:

  • Likely have a claim against the vehicle and/or equipment manufacturer
  • Can obtain compensation for their injuries and losses by working with an experienced car accident and product liability attorney.
