More than 5.83 million vehicles in the U.S. are being recalled due to the defective airbags they contain, officials at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced yesterday. According to this recall announcement, the owners of the vehicles impacted by this recall are urged to “act immediately” to avoid being harmed by these defective airbags.

What Makes these Defective Airbags Dangerous…

The reason that these defective airbags, which are made by Japanese company Takata, have been recalled is that they have a high risk of exploding during deployment in a car accident. This, in turn, can cause the airbags to expel small pieces of metal at the people in a vehicle. To date, at least 3 people have died due to injuries caused by these defective airbags. In one case, the fatal wounds were described to look like stab wounds.
